The Sheldon Concert Hall hosted the first annual Battle of the Corporate Bands on November 12 tot benefit MFLA!
Battle of the Corporate Bands was a special fundraising competition that featured bands made up of employees from various corporations in the St. Louis area. Winners were chosen by local celebrity judges, including “Radio Rich” Dalton, a disc jockey from KHITS 96 FM; Dan Durchholz, a music journalist from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, KMOX Radio and The St. Louis Beacon; and Patrick Murphy, vice president of production at KETC Channel 9.
The night’s performers included Not for A Billion - The Daugherty Party Band from Daugherty Business Solutions, Wite Lite from MasterCard Worldwide and Fidelity Investments and Oneinchead from Switch. Just in Time also competed, representing many different corporations from all over the St. Louis area including two members of the Sheldon Arts Foundation Board of Directors, Holly Gulick and Matt Mallinckrodt.
“The bands were judged in several categories, including Best Song List, Best Costumes, Best Stage Presence and Best Overall Band,” said Dale Benz, Music for Lifelong Achievement coordinator. “Oneinchead won for Best Overall Band, so now they have a chance to be featured in a future Notes From Home concert.”
Other awards for the evening were presented to Just in Time for Best Dressed, Wite Lite for Best Stage Presence and Not for a Billion for Best Set List.
“This was a fun event,” said Dale Benz. “It is the first time we have done anything like this, and the corporations have really gotten behind it. They may be ‘amateurs,’ but these are actually some really great bands.”
“We are so excited that the first annual corporate Battle of the Bands was such a success,” said Chris Peimann, director of marketing and publicity for The Sheldon. “The companies behind the bands have been so generous in their support and truly understand the need to get musical instruments into the hands of St. Louis students.”
